When I found out I had been short-listed for an Asian Women of Achievement Award
2018, in the Social and Humanitarian category, among some of Britain’s brightest,
smartest and most successful Asian Women – I was flabbergasted.
The awards were founded by the inspirational Pinky Lilani CBE in 1999 to showcase the
valuable contributions made by Asian women and to celebrate multi-cultural Britain.
Asian women in the UK are making waves, breaking down walls, defying cultural
stereotypes and making incredible achievements in all fields.
…And what a night it was…I was overwhelmed. Every single woman in that room was a
winner, regardless of who took home the award. I met outstanding women, leaders in
their fields. Whether it is through their fight against domestic violence and gender-based
violence or eradicating child marriage to those who successfully run their own
businesses, and those making break-through contributions in the medical field. Every
single woman had a story, and each of them inspired me.
